Everything you need to get started
From signing up to the first image on the TV — and what to do when something goes wrong.
Three steps to your first image
After signing up, the admin overview walks you through exactly these steps and ticks them off as you go.
- Connect a screen The TV shows a 6-character code that you enter in the admin area.
- Upload media The images and videos you want to play.
- Create a playlist and assign it Set the order and duration, then assign it to the screen.
The first month is free and needs no credit card — all Standard features and up to 2 screens. After that a plan is required for further screens; nothing is ever charged without you choosing it.
Setting up a screen
The principle is the same on every device: the screen opens
tvhorst.ch/player in its browser and shows a code. Enter that code in the admin
area under Screens → Connect screen.
Samsung Smart Signage (Tizen) — recommended
Samsung signage displays have a URL Launcher: the display loads a web address full-screen on power-up. No app store, no installation.
- Open Menu → System → Play via and select URL Launcher.
-
Open Menu → System → URL Launcher Settings and enter
https://tvhorst.ch/player. - Restart the display — it loads the player full-screen automatically.
- Enter the code shown on screen in the admin area.
Menu labels vary slightly between models.
LG webOS
Same principle under Settings → General → Server Settings or in browser mode:
enter https://tvhorst.ch/player and restart the display.
Any TV with a browser
For testing or a quick start, any TV with a browser will do:
- Open the browser on the TV.
- Go to
tvhorst.ch/player. - Enter the code shown in the admin area.
For permanent installations a signage display in kiosk mode is the most reliable choice — an ordinary TV browser will not relaunch the player by itself after a power cut.
Orientation and remote control
Each screen can be set to landscape or portrait, reloaded remotely, and switched to black — all from the screen card in the admin area.
Uploading media
Under Media you upload images and videos, either by clicking or by dragging files anywhere into the window. Folders help once the library grows.
- All common image and video formats are supported.
- Up to 250 MB per file.
- Full HD images (1920 × 1080) look best on a TV.
- Available storage depends on your plan and is shown on the overview.
Under Templates you can also design slides in the browser — fill in a ready-made layout or start from a blank canvas. The result lands in the media library as an ordinary image.
Playlists
A playlist defines what plays, in which order, and for how long. It loops continuously.
- Entries can be reordered by drag and drop.
- With no duration set, an image plays for 10 seconds and a video until it ends.
- Each entry can use a transition (crossfade, slide, or none).
Assign a playlist directly on the screen card under Screens. Several screens may show the same playlist.
Scheduling
Under Scheduling you can have something different play at certain times — a lunch menu from 11:00 to 14:00, say, or a promotion on a single day.
An active schedule takes precedence over the directly assigned playlist. The screen card makes this explicit with a "currently playing per schedule" note and an amber Geplant marker on the preview. Outside the scheduled window the regular playlist resumes.
Offline playback
The player caches the playlist and its images on the device. If the internet drops, playback simply continues; once the connection returns, the screen picks up changes automatically. Under normal conditions, edits in the admin area appear within seconds.
Troubleshooting
The code is rejected
A pairing code is valid for 30 minutes. After that the screen shows a new one automatically — the remaining validity is printed right below the code. Check the TV again and use whichever code it currently shows.
The screen is stuck on "Verbinde…"
The device cannot reach the internet. Check the network cable or Wi-Fi, and whether other sites load in the TV browser.
The screen shows nothing
Usually the assignment is missing: the screen card needs a playlist selected, and that playlist needs at least one entry. Also check that the screen has not been switched to black.
Changes are not arriving
A screen normally updates within seconds. Reload on the screen card forces it.
Re-pairing a screen
If a screen loses its pairing — a factory reset, cleared browser data — the player shows a code again. To avoid creating a duplicate screen:
- Open Screens → Connect screen in the admin area.
- Switch to "Existing screen" at the top.
- Pick the right screen, enter the new code, connect.
The playlist and settings are preserved.
Team & billing
Under Organisation you invite members and assign roles. Someone responsible for a single location only sees that location's screens.
Under Plan & usage you see your plan, storage and screen usage, and can switch plans. Billing is per screen; a new screen is charged pro rata from the day it is connected.
